The album is titled Goths , which is an unsurprising theme from the mind of John Darnielle, considering his music is a case study in gallows humor , he’s a bit of a horror novelist , and is a passionate heavy metal nerd . Karen Elson, on her 2010 her debut album brought murder ballads and the sounds of dark Americana . On her new record, Double Roses , the English singer summons a British folk vibe with songs that Elson describes as being more personal.
